Welcome to the hidden page of this website. I collect here random material that is part of a different (research) journey. Other easter eggs can be easily found inside my research papers.
"Every now and then, I find myself lost in reading."
I believe reading is one core component of doing good research. Some good books have deeply influenced my vision and forced me to think to author's perspective and/or revise my beliefs.
I am deeply affectionate to Hermann Hesse and to Khalil Gibran. I strongly recommend all their books. Other good stuff I found: Solaris by Stanislaw Lem; The Mind's I by Douglas R. Hofstadter and Daniel C. Dennett; The Way of Zen by Alan Watts; Invisible Cities by Italo Calvino; Fictions by Jeorge Luis Borges.
"I'm reaching for the random or, Whatever will bewilder me, And following our will and wind, We may just go where no one's been, We'll ride the spiral to the end" - Tool, Lateralus (the end)
Tool are the band that mostly influenced my taste in music, but I found them quite late, when I was 19 yo. Their music is deeply psychedelic, deep in meaning, and mathematical. I never get tired of them, but I do not recommend them if you don't like heavy sounds. Favorite song: Tool - Schism.
"Exposed to my interpretations. Please cut me out of this equation. Release me. My conscience is as clean as the bluest sky after a storm." - The Ocean, Silurian
The Ocean (collective) is one of those things that happens because good music has to exist. You get through geological eras, but lyrics are not about dynosaurs or extinction. The center is still the human. The music is full of layers, landscapes, and frenesy. You ears may still bleed, though: The Ocean - Devonian/Nascent.
"As many times before I turn to you. Searching in despair for answers. In infinity. Let me someday look at the world. With the same cold gaze and eternal light." - Vildhjarta, + stjärnblödning +
Vildhjarta is a progressive, djent metal band. Sometimes too heavy to bear. Masstaden is an apocalyptical, twisted-Alice-in-Wonderland, dark journey into the city of the seagull. Low-tuned guitars bang through slow rhythms, and after breathtaking sessions provoking ears hemorrhage, you find a small place for levitating with a dark melancolic ambience. At your own risk: Vildhjarta - kaos2.
"There in the mist, you asked me "Did you forget I exist?" I said, "Yes" 'Cause you played too hard to get." - Steven Wilson, Objects outlive us
Steven Wilson is my favorite prog artist. His entire music had a strong influence since when he started producing Opeth's Blackwater Park, to Porcupine Tree, and finally as an independent solo artist. It has different flavors, but what I like the most is the ethereal one, which I am sure it's his goto: Steven Wilson-The Overview.
